2009 OK so if you have watched the video above
you can see that I have set myself quite a challenge, not only am I going to
run the London Marathon in 2010 for the first time at the age of 50, I am
planning to run it for the next 10 years, and raise over £1,000,000.00 (1
Million Pounds) for various charities. I am currently working on a website
www.fastat50.com to help create awareness for
the fund raising. While at the same time encourage other over 50's to register
for future events and take up the challenge of running a marathon for charity.
Although planning is still in the early stages, the immediate outline
plan is to prove a point, that being,... that Internet Marketing now plays a
major role in almost everything we do. Some people could argue that I am using
this event to heighten my own profile (simply to make me look good), perhaps I
am, unfortunately we live in an attention age, and those that get the attention
more often than not end up the winners. Although I have registered for the race
and stayed up till the early hours to make sure my ballot was successfully
submitted and paid my registration fee, I will not know if I will be successful
in securing my place until early October.
Therefore instead of just
sitting here for the next 5 months with my fingers crossed I aim to ensure that
I give myself the best possible chance of gaining a place so I can represent my
chosen charities and raise a phenomenal amount of money in the process. So
today I set myself my first task of writing to a number of well known charities
to register my support should I fail in my attempt to get a natural place in
the Marathon, for those of you are not aware charities are automatically
designated places which they themselves allocate to individuals accordingly. So
wish me luck.
The Website and long term plan. As I have
stated in the video above, I don't just intend to plod along for 26.2 miles I
intend to be FAST AT 50, finishing in a respectable time. Many people say that
life begins at 40, I believe that at 50 you know where you want to be, at 40
you tend to spend all your time thinking about where you want to be, at 50 it's
time to do it before it's too late. If the law of averages is correct anything
after 72 years is a bonus. So if you are approaching your late forties start
thinking about taking action and become FAST AT 50 (FIT AND STILL TRAINING).
After watching members of my own family and friends grow old, and sadly
watch some of them die, it makes you look at life and the part you play, when I
started writing this I promised myself that I didn't want to get to personal so
I wont, however what I want to finish off by saying is something we are told
time and time again and it's one of the simplest instructions "do it", don't
spend your life waiting for the right moment, because there is no right moment.
