I started my career
as an Internet Marketer when I decided to create an online Business Directory
for local businesses in my home town and surrounding districts of Greater
Manchester in the UK. After studying marketing at Newcastle University as a
mature student, I registered my first domain in November 1999 and launched
http://www.havealink.com in May
2000.
How I went on to build "The Best Local
Directory"
My objective from the outset was to create the
BEST local directory, and although there are now literally millions of
directories online, HAVEALINK.COM has
occupied the No1# position or at least remained on the first page of all major
search engines for almost 10 years, for a wide range of local business criteria
including the search term "best local directory". |

havealink.com has continued to rank on the first page of Google for "the best local directory" for almost a decade.
More importantly the directory has received 1000's of visitors day
after day since being created in 2000, for wide range of search criteria,
giving me an endless stream of valuable information and market
research.

My advice to anyone
who wants to find out what consumers are searching for online is simple ..build
a local directory that generates natural traffic and analyze that traffic,
study the trends and patterns, you will be amazed at what you will find. Some
of this information I will share with you throughout future posts on this
website.

The biggest problem
many people face when they first start out as would be Internet Marketers is
that you can often suffer from information overload. Although this is quite
true my advice to you, would be to read books on Marketing and Self Development
first . Doing this will give you a good basis of background information i.e.
knowledge. Just knowing the fundamentals of Marketing is a must for anyone
starting any form of business both online and off-line. Self development will
also help you attain the right mindset, because making money online is a
difficult journey, anyone who tells you anything different isn't quite telling
you the truth. However the learning process can be speeded up by sourcing
information and guidance from the right people, I truly believe that I can help
you on your journey by guiding you through some of the important basics and
then onto the intermediate levels.
